I've had problems with my face once in a while, not that I'm bragging or anything, it's just that my mom took extra care of this face since it was young and deceivingly innocent. I started grade school using Johnson's pure essentials facial wash (which I could not see in stores any more, sad.) High school, or more appropriately, the so-called "adolescence" period is probably the most problematic phase I had to go through. On my freshman year, I remember having a really awful pimple right above my left cheek, being the stubborn and inquisitive person that I shouldn't have been, I started playing with it, putting toothpaste and other stuff on it, undoubtedly it became worse. When it got worse, it made me cover it with a handkerchief 10 hours a day and 5 times a week (school hours and days), and I was completely known for always covering my face with a handkerchief! When I look back on those days, I can't help but point out how "arte" I was at that time. Haha!!
Nowadays, I simply make sure I get to do this every night and day (I refer to this as my "Daily and Nightly Rituals":
1.) Wash your face. It's very important. Need I say more? I have dry skin, some say I'm fortunate to have that, but it's not that big of a deal, the only benefit I get with this skin is I rarely have pimple. Besides that, I have super sensitive skin, white heads are recurring, dark areas are apparent, and I read somewhere that dry skin can easily kiss goodbye to "babyface" because it is prone to aging.
Anyway, to make a corny suggestion, I have used a lot of facial wash in my entire 19 years, but recently I find Olay's Natural White and Moisturizing Balance foaming face wash (since I have dry skin) really good. Kasi most facial washes are drying up your skin, so you have to be really careful in using face products.

2.) Tone it up! Malandi talaga 'to, pero it's also very crucial that we tone our skin. Toner helps clearing out excess dirt and accumulated oils. Ito ang lagi kong suggestion sa mga oily skin, it's always a must that one should keep his or her face clean and moisturized. I like this Garnier Milky toner, kasi milky siya. (Hindi ako magaling sa ganito, swear), I just like it kasi hindi siya nakaka-dry ng skin. Pero I also use Eskinol Iceporetheraphy toner, super cool sa face and rarely akong nagka-pimple because of it! (Yes! Pwede ng commercial!)

3.) Moisturize? I do so every now and then, pero nakakatamad kasi paminsan. :| (Okay, that was too honest, blog advertising FAILLL!) Haha, all I can say is SLEEP. When you're too deprived of a good night's sleep, you're more prone to face problems. I know, cause I've been there, and I'm still there. Haha. Most people are investing too much on skin products (my mother is my primary example, all of those products mentioned above came from her) she uses too many "not really cheap" products, pero I can see the result naman na it's really good so no harm done. Pero to those who are unable to spend too much (like yours truly) I suggest simply taking care of your face, kung feeling mo super oily at dumi mo na, maghilamos ka na. Yun lang, solb na yan. Itulog mo, tubig (dawww), eat healthy, exercise! and protect your skin from our harmful haring araw, (payong lang katapat nito kung ayaw mo ng sunblock).
That will surely superbly help. :)
Hoping that all of my nonsense made sense to you! :D

Goodnight!
