Rating: ✮ ✮ ✮

From the famous author who wrote The Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants, here is My Name Is Memory which I've heard from my boss slash evaluator during my On-the-job Trainee days who unknowingly ruined my little dream after that, haha! At first the title was interesting to me, I mean, it does sound interesting, doesn't it? It's a story about a guy named Daniel who fell in love with same girl, Lucy over the past hundreds of years. How? He said he is reincarnating into different lives every time he dies. So each time he lives again, he finds and falls in love with the same person, and of course Lucy is also a human who dies and lives again but here's the thing; she doesn't have 'the memory' of Daniel. Sooooo, I don't want to spoil it to you, but the story is catchy, 'cause at one point in my life I pondered about what if I was Marilyn Monroe at my past life? Or was I a panda then? or just one of the crawling ants in my bedroom?

Okay, going back to the story, it is interesting because it can be true---well, you'll never know anyway. No one will ever know, unless some person comes up with a bunch of 'Memories' he has collected over a hundred years or so. The story comes to a disappointment when I got to read the ending. I've never had the reaction of exclaiming 'What the hell?!?' after finishing a book until this one came along. Yah, Brashares probably wanted the readers to get a bite of frustration so she can boost her sales to her upcoming novels because I've heard it's going to be a trilogy. Haha!

Of course I have good remarks about this, despite that I would not really say that I had a nice time reading it; it is still however, beautifully written and I mean that it simply has a gripping plot wherein you can't wait to get to the ending. The author didn't use a lot of obscure words so it's an easy read. Quite predictable, but the ending spoiled my predictions. Compare to other novels that I've read, this is out of the ordinary. I guess this book deserves a movie and I wouldn't miss that one.

Memorable quotes:

"No. We are meant to be together. We are just meant to want it very badly."

“She spilled rice on my knee, and she smiled. I wanted her to spill a thousand things on me, lava, acid, bricks, anything, and smile each time”

“You love your memory but you need to love your girl. You remember what is lost, and you forget what’s right in front of you.”

“Love demands everything, they say, but my love demands only this: that no matter what happens or how long it takes, you’ll keep faith in me, you’ll remember who we are, and you never feel despair.”

“Geese paired up like humans, Joseph explained. Better than humans, because geese stayed true.”
